My sister Joy told me that Daddy said that he "never got a handle on Ardie." (That's my nickname.) I know how he felt, though probably for different reasons. Once I applied for a career-guiding grant. I didn't know which to choose from their given categories, "visual arts" or "music." My time seems to me to be equally divided between these two things.
Visually, I have worked in almost every medium for two dimensional works, and sculpturally in gold, silver, steel, and found objects. Sizes run the gamut from jewelry to a sixty five foot long building installation. Most pieces were commissions. Now, more free to do as I please, I am filling my yard.
Musically, I am a vocalist with a history of performance in duos, trios, and bands. I do solo shows with my baritone ukulele and harmonicas, these days, though I enjoy playing out from time to time with others. Songs range from jazz standards, to folk, pop before the '80's, and originals.
Born near the Kansas River in Kansas City, I now live close to the river in a very sweet old house in Lawrence, Kansas. This fine town has offered me many opportunities to express myself, and the community here has supported me with heart. I will return the favor for as long as I can.
Thanks for your interest. I hope you are finding as much joy in your time on our planet as I am!
Love, Ardys LaVon
